The Wedding Hashtag...#yesplease

Updated: Jan 4, 2018

It's 2018 and there's a hashtag for everything, including your wedding. And sure, it might be the last thing you think about because you haven't updated your Inst account in a while and you only have 50 followers and really, why add another item on your to-do list. But, having a wedding hashtag can be fun like #ForTheNGUYEN (WIN, get it?), and this will give something for your bridal party to do. So have the guys and gals grab some mango mojitos and start hashtagging. Here are some tried and true tips for successful hashtagging your wedding.

  1. Create a unique hashtag. #ForTheNGUYEN is a cute one, but unless you're the only NGUYEN (you're not), pictures from your wedding will be lost in a sea of other NGUYENs. A more unique hashtag might be to combine the groom's last or first name with "ForTheNGUYEN", like our couple, Michelle and James, with #nGO4TheNGUYEN. Another option is to add your wedding date. Hey, nobody said it needed to punny (see what I did there?) (TIP: you can check if your hashtag exists by typing into the search of IG)

  2. Make sure you let everyone knows about your hashtag. Yes, that includes moms and Aunt Besty. I know, I know, they don't use instagram. But after a few "Where can I see your pictures, it's not on THE facebook..." you'll be glad you showed them how to find pictures based on hashtags. So include your hashtags on your wedding website as soon as you have it.

  3. Did your bestie take some cute candid shots but forgot to hashtag them, #TrangGotDOUGed (by the way, don't look up what getting doug'ed mean, no really, don't google it)? You could politely ask her to go back and edit her posts to include it, or you can simply comment on her posts with the hashtag. It will still show up in hashtag searches.

  4. Don't stress! It's only a hashtag. Did you know there are several hashtag generators out there that can help you with creating a hashtag, or a hundred? They might not be puns, but in a long list of wedding planning things you need to do, if there's a bot that can do it for you, let it. List of wedding hashtag generator
